Every accessory site that answers "what tote fits a folded ebike" skips the one number that actually decides it: the bike's own folded height. Lectric publishes the XP4's folded footprint at 37 in long, 17 in wide and 29 in tall, standing on its wheels the way it comes off the frame when you fold it. Put that 29 in figure next to any popular storage tote and the question answers itself: the totes people recommend in forum threads run several inches short on height, which is not close. This guide states that arithmetic plainly, names the specific totes it checked with their own published dimensions, and says what we could and could not confirm about laying the bike on its side instead of standing it up, which is the only way any of these totes gets closer. Nobody has published that step for an XP4 specifically, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

At 45 in x 23.92 in x 22.28 in exterior, this is the biggest tote we found and still falls 6.72 in short of the XP4 folded height of 29 in standing up. An XPremium owner made this exact tote work lying the bike on its side, but the XPremium is a larger bike than the XP4 in every folded dimension, and we found no report of an XP4 owner doing the same, so we are not carrying that verdict over. Standing up, it does not fit; on its side, unconfirmed for this bike.

The tote clears the length and the width but not the height by 11 in, so the lid will not close over the bike standing on its wheels. Both figures are the manufacturers own published numbers, not a measurement we took, and neither changes if the bike is laid on its side rather than stood up, which nobody has reported doing with an XP4 in this tote.

What actually decides whether a tote works

Three things, in order of how much they matter.

  • Standing height is the real test. The XP4's folded height is 29 in. If a tote is not at least that tall inside, the lid does not close over the bike standing up, no matter how many gallons the listing advertises.
  • Laying the bike down changes the math, but nobody has proven it for the XP4. The one report we found of a folded Lectric fitting inside a tote this way is for the XPremium, a bigger bike in every folded dimension. Treat it as a plausible direction, not a confirmed fit, the same way this site treats any figure borrowed from a different model.
  • Lectric's own advice is a size class, not a product. Their transport guide names a 50 gal bin and tells you to pick one that fits your vehicle. It is a starting point for shopping, not a claim that any specific 50 gal tote clears the XP4.

  • Sterilite 45 gal Wheeled Latch Tote, 36.625 in x 21 in x 19.5 in exterior. A little taller, still well short.
  • HDX 70 gal Tough Storage Tote, 45 in x 23.92 in x 22.28 in exterior, sold at Home Depot rather than Amazon. The biggest of the three and the only one with an owner report behind it, for the XPremium rather than the XP4.

If your plan is a truck bed rather than a specific tote, Lectric's own guide is simpler: pick a 50 gal bin sized to your vehicle, pad it, and strap it down rather than relying on the lid alone to hold the bike in place.

What we could not verify

Whether laying the XP4 on its side inside any of these totes actually works. The XPremium owner who made a 70 gal tote work was folding a bigger bike into it, and folded length and width change the packing problem as much as height does. Until an XP4 owner reports the same, or someone measures the XP4 folded sideways rather than standing up, this guide states the standing-up numbers as fact and the laid-down case as an open question, the same way the seatpost and mirror guides on this site hold a line between a published figure and a plausible one. Will a 40 gallon tote fit the folded XP4?

Not standing up. A 40 gal Sterilite tote runs 36.75 in x 21.375 in x 18 in exterior, and the XP4 needs 29 in of height to stand on its wheels inside one. The gallon rating does not tell you the height; the dimensions do.

What does Lectric recommend for transporting a folded ebike?

Lectric's own transport guide recommends a 50 gal plastic storage bin sized to fit your truck bed, padded inside and strapped down. That is size guidance for picking a bin, not a claim that a specific product fits the XP4.

Has anyone actually fit a folded XP4 inside a storage tote?

Not that we could find published. The closest report is a Lectric XPremium owner, a bigger bike folded to 40 in x 22 in x 32 in, fitting a 70 gal HDX tote by laying it on its side. No XP4-specific report exists, so we state the standing-up numbers as fact and leave the laid-down case open.
