Where to Mount a Lock on the Lectric XP4

Buy the Lectric folding lock for an XP4 and there is a good chance you will spend an evening discovering it does not go where the bike appears to want it. The frame has mounting points behind the seat tube, ahead of the rear tyre. The lock case is physically too big to sit between them. Owner after owner arrives at the same conclusion independently, in separate threads, and more than one calls it a design oversight rather than a mistake they made. Lectric half concedes the point: the official install article says some frame areas may be tight or unsuitable and steers you to the main tube instead. Before any of the rest: do not bolt the case to the underside of the main tube. It is a popular workaround, and an owner in these threads relays a report of one working loose while riding and throwing the rider over the handlebars. The other thing to know up front is that the frame bolts are aluminium and strip easily, so a ball-end allen key is close to essential. With those two out of the way, this guide covers where the lock actually goes and which bracket you need for your frame shape.

Step-Thru Lock Adapter for Lectric XP4, 2 Pack

Puts the lock at the bottle bosses, which is where step-through owners consistently end up, and the two-pack means a spare when you strip a bracket bolt.

Step-Thru Lock Adapter for Lectric XP4, 2 Pack

Puts the lock at the bottle bosses, which is where step-through owners consistently end up, and the two-pack means a spare when you strip a bracket bolt.

Fits.Fits Lectric XP4

Install note

The bottle boss position is where XP4 owners land after the rear point fails, and multiple owners describe mounting there. One gives the detail that saves you an afternoon: use the REAR two bolt holes, because the front two put the lock where the handlebar stem fouls it. Several also report the case only clears when mounted upside down, which works but is worth knowing before you commit.

Lock Mount Bracket for Lectric XP4 Step Over

The high-step answer, sitting behind the seat tube. Owners who refuse to give up on the stock spot get there eventually, but this is the version that does not cost you an afternoon.

Fits.Fits Lectric XP4

Install note

Step-over owners report the stock position is possible but brutal: one spent two hours on it, another gave up in ten minutes and mounted the lock under the frame instead. The same thread carries two warnings worth heeding. The frame bolts are aluminium and strip easily, and ball-end allen keys are close to essential for starting them. Do not mount the case under the main tube: an owner relays a report of one working loose in motion and throwing the rider.

Tracker built in03

Step-Through Lock Mount Adapter for Lectric XP4

Same step-through relocation, with a concealed tracker pocket moulded into the mount, which is a sensible pairing given how often these bikes are stolen.

Fits.Fits Lectric XP4

Install note

An XP4 step-through owner points at exactly this class of adapter as the fix, describing it as the way to keep using the lock case you already own by moving it to the upper tube. Buy the variant that matches your frame: step-through and step-over need different brackets, and this one is the step-through.

Underseat Lock Mount Bracket for Lectric XP4

Hangs the lock under the saddle so the bottle bosses stay free for a bottle.

Fits.Fits Lectric XP4

Install note

Owners who want the bottle position back for a bottle move the lock elsewhere, and under the saddle is the common answer. Being clear on the evidence: the relocation strategy is well attested in the threads, but we have not found an owner report naming this specific bracket, so treat the concept as confirmed and the part as unproven.

Lectric Folding Bike Lock

Included because its case is the reason this page exists. The lock is fine; the mounting position Lectric points you at is the part that does not work.

Conditional fit.Lectric XP4 with adapter

Install note

The lock is fine. Its case will not go where the bike suggests it goes. XP4 owners report the rear mounting point behind the seat is too tight for the lock to fit between the brackets, and call it a design oversight; one says there is now nothing that can be mounted to those points at all. An owner comparing directly against an XP 3.0 notes the XP4 made that space much tighter. Lectric partly concedes it: the official install article says some frame areas may be tight or unsuitable and suggests the main tube instead. Workable answers are the bottle boss position, often upside down, or one of the adapters above.

What to check before you buy

This is a frame-shape decision more than a product decision.

  • Step-through or step-over. They need different brackets. A step-through mount relocates the case to the upper tube or bottle bosses; a step-over one sits behind the seat tube. Buying the wrong shape is the most common mistake here.
  • What you want the bottle bosses for. The bottle position is the reliable place for a lock, so if you also want a bottle there, go for an underseat cradle instead and keep the bosses free.
  • Whether you already own the Lectric lock. If you do, an adapter keeps it useful. If you do not, you are free to pick a lock that comes with a mount that suits the frame.
  • The bolts. They are aluminium. Owners strip them, and ball-end allen keys are the difference between a fifteen-minute job and a two-hour one.

What we could not verify

We have not measured the gap at the rear mounting point, and Lectric does not publish a dimension for it, so we cannot tell you which locks would fit there and which will not. What we can say is that multiple owners report the lock Lectric sells for the bike does not. We have also not found an owner report naming the underseat cradle specifically; the strategy of moving the lock off the frame is well attested, that particular part is not. If you have measured the gap, send the number and we will publish it with your report as the source.

Questions owners ask

Why will the Lectric lock not mount behind the seat?

Owners report the case is simply too large to fit between the mounting brackets there. Several describe it as an oversight, and one who compared against an XP 3.0 says the XP4 made that space considerably tighter.

Where do XP4 owners actually mount the lock?

The water bottle boss position, very often with the case upside down. If you go that route, use the rear two bolt holes: the front two put the case where the handlebar stem gets in the way.

Can I mount the lock case under the main frame tube?

We would not. It is a position some owners use, but one relays a report of a case coming loose while riding and throwing the rider over the handlebars. Given the alternatives, the risk is not worth it.

Do step-through and step-over need different brackets?

Yes, and this is the thing to get right. The two frames put the usable mounting points in different places, so the adapters are sold separately by frame shape. Check which XP4 you have before ordering.

Why are the frame bolts so hard to start?

They are aluminium and the clearance is tight. Owners recommend ball-end allen keys, and one used a length of rubber hose over the bolt to get it started. Take your time: stripping one is easy and unpleasant to fix.
