For the DJI Osmo Action 6

DJI Osmo Action 6 Batteries: Which Packs Fit

The Osmo Action 6 takes DJI's Osmo Action Extreme Battery Plus, a 1950 mAh pack, and DJI's own compatibility list ticks the same pack for the Action 5 Pro. If you already own Action 5 Pro batteries, they carry over. DJI rates the camera at 240 minutes of 1080p/24fps recording on one battery under its test conditions.

The decision is whether to go third-party. Every non-DJI kit checked here is sold at 2100 mAh, above the 1950 mAh DJI states, and DJI's manual says not to use non-official batteries. The seller's numbers are theirs, not a measured result.

Eight parts were checked for this guide: DJI's battery and Battery Case 3, five third-party kits and DJI's Charging Handle as the documented wrong answer. DJI publishes nothing about third-party batteries or charging cases, so every non-DJI fit below is the seller's own statement, read off the listing on the date shown.

Do Action 5 Pro and Action 4 batteries fit the Action 6?

DJI's compatibility list ticks the Extreme Battery Plus (1950 mAh) and the older Extreme Battery for the Action 6, and ticks the Extreme Battery Plus for the Action 5 Pro too. DJI USA's product page names the Osmo 360, Action 6, 5 Pro, 4 and 3 for the Extreme Battery Plus.

An owner who compared both cameras writes that the 1950 mAh pack "is backward compatible" with the Action 4 and 5 Pro, and that 1770 mAh packs from an Action 4 will work in the Action 6, although you will not get the full runtime. The first part matches DJI's list. The second is the owner's report, and DJI's list covers the older pack with a tick. The Osmo Action 4 batteries guide covers the older camera's own pack.

Charging cases and handles

DJI's list ticks the Multifunctional Battery Case 2 and 3 and the Action Dual-Direction Battery Handle for the Action 6. It crosses out the original Multifunctional Battery Case and the Multifunctional Charging Handle, which is the part many Action 5 Pro owners hold. Battery Case 3 measures 115.9 x 59 x 23 mm and weighs 84 g on DJI USA's page, and the manual lists it in the Adventure Combo and not the Standard one. The manual says it charges three batteries or external devices and recommends a USB-C charger that supports PD or PPS.

DJI's list also ticks its USB-C Charger and the Type-C to Type-C PD Cable for the Action 6. Third-party charging cases are listed below; DJI publishes no fit for them.

Third-party packs: DJI warranty and capacity claims

DJI's manual states: "DO NOT use non-official batteries. DJI takes no responsibility for any damage caused by non-official batteries." Its after-sales policy lists as excluded damage caused by "a reliability or compatibility issue due to use of unauthenticated third-party parts". Neither is a statement about one particular brand, and neither says a third-party pack will damage the camera. They say who carries the risk if it does.

The five kits here are K&F Concept (two kits), JIMOVA, SANOOV and SUGUBU. Each sells three packs and a three-slot charger and states 2100 mAh, and JIMOVA states 8.13 Wh at 3.87 V. DJI states 1950 mAh and 7.5 Wh at 3.87 V for its own pack, so the extra capacity is the seller's claim and not a result. SANOOV's title names only the Action 5 Pro and the Action 6 appears in its bullets.

What to check before you buy

  • Spare packs you own. Action 5 Pro Extreme Battery Plus packs are ticked by DJI. Start there before buying new.
  • First-party or third-party. DJI sells its pack and Battery Case 3 direct. Third-party kits give three packs and a charger in one box and put the risk on you.
  • Read the bullets. SANOOV's title names the Action 5 Pro and not the Action 6. Buy a kit whose listing names the Action 6.
  • Charge with PD or PPS. DJI's manual recommends a USB-C charger that supports PD or PPS.
  • Storage. DJI says to discharge a battery to 40-65% if it will sit for 10 days or more.
  • Cold. DJI states -20 to 45 C operating and 5 to 40 C charging for its pack.

What we could not verify

No third-party kit here has a capacity or runtime test behind it, only the seller's figure, and we found no owner report for any of the five listings. DJI states that its pack fits the Action 6 but publishes no third-party list. We did not read a sixth listing, which returned no page. If you have run a third-party pack in an Action 6, tell us and we will add your report as the source.
