The weight and warranty questions answered against DJIs own copy and the FAA line.

DJI Mini 5 Pro Batteries and the 250 g Question

Batteries are where the Mini 5 Pro weight story lands hardest, because the battery is the part DJI itself says decides which side of the line the drone is on. DJI sells a standard Intelligent Flight Battery that keeps the aircraft under the threshold, and a higher-capacity Battery Plus that DJI documentation says takes it over. Every third-party cell in this guide is a copy of that Battery Plus, sold for longer flights, and so every one of them flies a drone that has to be registered.

There is a second thing to know before you buy a third-party cell, and it is not the one people usually worry about. DJIs after-sales policy excludes damage caused by unauthenticated third-party parts. That is a general damage exclusion, not the kind of specific charger-voids-your-warranty statement that would rule the category out, so we state it plainly and let you weigh it rather than using it to scare you off. One cell in the scan goes further and tells you in writing to charge it only with DJI original chargers, which is exactly the caution the rest of the category leaves unsaid.

The reference, not a link05

DJI states on the Mini 4 Pro spec page that the Battery Plus takes the aircraft over 249 g; the same class of cell does the same on the Mini 5 Pro, which is why any Battery Plus flies a registered drone.

What to check before you buy

Three things decide a battery purchase for this drone.

  • Know you are registering. A high-capacity Battery Plus takes the Mini 5 Pro over 250 g, which is the same line a propeller guard crosses. If you fly on the bigger cell, you are flying a registered drone.
  • Match the cell to your charger. Several third-party cells work with DJI charging gear, and at least one states it should be charged only with DJI original chargers. Read that line on the listing and match the two.
  • Understand the warranty position. DJI excludes damage from unauthenticated third-party parts. That does not make a third-party cell unusable, but it is a real exclusion and worth knowing before you buy.
  • Watch cross-generation listings. Some cells list the Mini 5 Pro next to the 4 Pro, 3 Pro and 3. Confirm your model at checkout, because a cell sold for four drones is easy to order in the wrong variant.

The battery is the weight lever, in DJIs own words

On the reachable DJI Mini 4 Pro spec page, DJI writes that with the Intelligent Flight Battery Plus the aircraft weighs more than 249 g, and lists the standard battery at about 77.9 g against the Battery Plus at about 121 g. That is the sibling airframe, but it is the same mechanism the Mini 5 Pro inherits: the bigger cell is heavier, and the heavier cell is what carries the drone across the registration line. DJI does not publish a Mini 5 Pro battery weight we can reach, so we do not quote one, but the direction is not in doubt and DJI states it plainly for the generation it does document.

What we could not verify

We have not flown any of these cells and we have not measured a runtime. DJI publishes no US-reachable Mini 5 Pro battery figure, so the capacity and flight-time numbers here are the sellers, read off the listing on the date shown, and the weight direction comes from DJIs Mini 4 Pro copy and the FAA line. If your measured runtime or registered weight differs, send it and we will publish your report as the source.

Questions owners ask

Does a bigger battery push the Mini 5 Pro over 250 g?

Yes. The Battery Plus is the higher-capacity cell, and DJI documentation says it takes the aircraft over the weight the standard battery keeps it under. Fly on a Battery Plus, whether DJIs or a third-party copy, and you are flying a registered drone.

Do third-party batteries void the DJI warranty?

Not automatically. DJIs after-sales policy excludes damage caused by unauthenticated third-party parts, which is a general damage exclusion rather than a blanket statement that a third-party cell voids everything. It is a real exclusion, so weigh it, but it is not the charger-voids-warranty rule some categories carry.

Can I charge a third-party battery in my DJI charger?

Often yes, but read the listing. Several cells work with DJI charging gear, and at least one states it should be charged only with DJI original chargers. Match the cell to the charger the seller specifies rather than assuming.
