DJI Osmo Action 6 Mounts: Which Quick-Release Fits

Every mount for the Osmo Action 6 starts at one part: DJI's Dual-Direction Quick-Release Adapter Mount. It clips into the Quick-Release Slot on the camera body, and both the Standard and the Adventure combo list one. DJI's list ticks its chest strap, handlebar, suction cup and helmet mounts for this camera.

The trap is the adapter you may already own. DJI crosses out the older Osmo Action Quick-Release Adapter Mount for the Action 6, together with the Magnetic Ball-Joint Adapter Mount, the Mini Handlebar Mount and the Road Cycling Accessory Kit. Each of the last three has a Dual-Direction twin that is ticked.

How the Action 6 mounts: the Dual-Direction adapter

DJI's manual shows the camera with a Quick-Release Slot on its body. The adapter's clips go into the slots, you tighten the locking screws, and you press both clips to take the camera off. DJI's USA page for the adapter gives 44.4 x 18.2 x 29 mm and 16 g, names the Action 6 and the Osmo Nano as compatible and showed it out of stock on the date above.

The same adapter is named for the Nano and crossed out for the Action 5 Pro, and the older adapter is the reverse. That is the whole reason a drawer of Action 5 Pro mounts does not move across as a set. An owner who tested both cameras writes that the magnetic quick-release mounts "remain the same, so all your old tripods and chest mounts will fit". Read against DJI's list, that holds for the mounts that hang off the adapter and not for the adapter itself.

Which older DJI mounts still fit

DJI's list ticks these for the Action 6 with no extra part named: the Osmo Action Chest Strap Mount, Handlebar Mount, Suction Cup Mount, Helmet Chin Mount, Bike Seat Rail Mount, Hanging Neck Mount, Backpack Strap Mount, Bite Mount, Curved Adhesive Base and Locking Screw. The Osmo Action Mounting Kit, the 1.5m Extension Rod Kit, the Adhesive Base Kit and the Curved Adhesive Base Kit are ticked too, with a note that the Dual-Direction adapter from the combo is required.

Crossed out for the Action 6 are the Osmo Action Quick-Release Adapter Mount, the Magnetic Ball-Joint Adapter Mount, the Mini Handlebar Mount, the Road Cycling Accessory Kit and the Adjustable Quick-Release Adapter Mount. The Dual-Direction Mini Handlebar Mount, Road Cycling Accessory Kit and Extension Rod Kit are the ticked replacements.

Third-party adapters: what is claimed

Five third-party adapters are linked. SmallRig sells a pair, one with a two-prong foot and one with a 1/4"-20 hole, and its own listing says the magnetic hold is weak. Amazear's turns through 360 degrees, weighs 29 g by its listing and is the only rotating one. aMagisn is stainless steel at 22 g and 15.3 mm wide. MINIFOCUS ships a dual-direction adapter with a thumb screw at 15 g. Four of the five name the Action 6 and the Nano, and the aMagisn listing adds the Osmo 360 II.

VRIG is the exception. Its title claims the Action 6, 5 Pro, 4, and 3 plus the Nano in one 10 g part. DJI treats the two generations' adapters as separate parts, so that claim rests on the seller alone. Weight capacities and tilt ranges on the listings are the sellers' figures and DJI publishes none, so this page does not rank adapters by load.

What to check before you buy

  • Name the camera. Buy an adapter whose title says Osmo Action 6. "Action 5 Pro" alone is the old interface, and DJI lists the two as different parts.
  • Check what it attaches to. A two-prong foot takes GoPro-style mounts and a 1/4"-20 hole takes tripods and selfie sticks. SmallRig sells one of each in one pack.
  • Use the combo adapter first. Both combos include the DJI adapter, and DJI's chest, handlebar and helmet mounts are ticked for it.
  • Handlebar and road cycling. Buy the Dual-Direction Mini Handlebar Mount or Road Cycling Accessory Kit. The older ones are crossed out.
  • Cage and case. A case that holds a caged camera is on the Osmo Action 6 cases page.
  • Spare batteries. Which packs fit the camera is on the Osmo Action 6 batteries page.

What we could not verify

No third-party adapter here has a load or magnet test behind it, only the seller's figures, and we found no owner report for any of the five listings. DJI states that its adapter fits the Action 6 but does not say how strong the hold is. If you have used one of these on a handlebar or a pole, tell us and we will add your report as the source.

Do my Osmo Action 5 Pro mounts fit the Action 6?

Some do. DJI ticks the chest, handlebar, suction cup, helmet chin and seat rail mounts for the Action 6, but it crosses out the older Quick-Release Adapter Mount, so the camera needs the Dual-Direction adapter that ships in the combo.

What mounting interface does the Osmo Action 6 use?
