DJI Osmo Action 4 Batteries: Which Packs Fit

The Osmo Action 4 ships with DJI's Extreme Battery, a 1770 mAh pack that DJI rates at 160 minutes of 1080p/24fps recording under its test conditions. The decision most owners face now is the newer Extreme Battery Plus, a 1950 mAh pack that DJI's own compatibility list ticks for the Action 4 as well as the Action 5 Pro and Action 6. An owner of both cameras writes that, with the latest firmware, the 1950 mAh packs are backwards compatible with the Action 4, so one spare can serve a newer camera too.

The second decision is whether to go third-party. Every non-DJI kit checked here is sold at 2100 mAh, above any figure DJI publishes for the Action 4, and DJI's manual says not to use non-DJI batteries and not to charge them in its battery case. The seller's numbers are theirs, not a measured result.

Seven parts were checked for this guide: DJI's Extreme Battery Plus and Battery Case 3, and five third-party kits. DJI publishes nothing about third-party batteries, so every non-DJI fit below is the seller's own statement, read off the listing on the date shown. The five Amazon listings were read on 2026-10-19 and not again on the day this page was written.

Does the newer 1950 mAh battery fit the Action 4?

Yes, by DJI's list. It ticks the Extreme Battery Plus (1950 mAh) and the Extreme Battery for the Action 4, and DJI USA's product page names the Osmo 360, Action 6, 5 Pro, 4 and 3 for the Plus.

Owners agree. One who compared the Action 4 and 5 Pro says the new packs are backwards compatible with the Action 4 on the latest firmware and give the same boost in battery life. Another says the 1950 mAh pack works in the Action 4 and that the 1770 mAh packs from an Action 4 work in the Action 6 without the full runtime. Read the runtime claim as the owners', since DJI states a 160 minute figure for the Action 4's own pack and publishes none for the Plus in this camera.

Charging cases and chargers

DJI's list ticks the Multifunctional Battery Case, Case 2 and Case 3, the Multifunctional Charging Handle, the 30W USB-C Charger and the Type-C to Type-C PD Cable for the Action 4. Case 3 measures 115.9 x 59 x 23 mm and weighs 84 g on DJI USA's page. The manual says the original case stores three batteries and two microSD cards and can also charge a connected device, and recommends the DJI 30 W USB-C Charger or a charger that supports PD or PPS. It says three batteries charge in about two hours that way, and one battery in about 49 minutes in the camera.

An Action 4 owner bought the battery case and two extra packs, finds it stores and charges three at once, and uses two charged packs on a full day of 4K filming. The manual also says the case must not charge non-DJI batteries, so the third-party kits below bring their own chargers.

Third-party packs: DJI warranty and capacity claims

DJI's Action 4 manual states: "DO NOT use non-DJI OSMO batteries. DJI OSMO shall not be responsible for any fault or damage caused by the use of any non-DJI OSMO batteries." That is not a statement about one brand, and it does not say a third-party pack will damage the camera. It says who carries the risk if it does.

The five kits here are K&F Concept (two kits), JIMOVA, SANOOV and SUGUBU. Each sells three packs and a three-slot charger and states 2100 mAh, and JIMOVA states 8.13 Wh at 3.87 V. DJI states 1770 mAh, 6.8 Wh and 3.85 V for the Action 4 pack, so the extra capacity is the seller's claim and not a result. SANOOV's title names only the Action 5 Pro and the second K&F kit's title names only the Action 6; the Action 4 appears in their bullets.

What to check before you buy

  • Spares you own. Action 5 Pro and Action 6 Extreme Battery Plus packs are ticked for the Action 4 by DJI. Start there before buying new.
  • First-party or third-party. DJI sells its pack and Battery Case 3 direct. Third-party kits give three packs and a charger in one box and put the risk on you.
  • Read the bullets. Two titles here do not name the Action 4. Buy a kit whose listing states it.
  • Charge with PD or PPS. DJI's manual recommends a USB-C charger that supports PD or PPS.
  • Storage. DJI says to take the battery out and store it in the battery case for a long break, and to discharge and charge it fully once every three months.
  • Cold. DJI states -20 to 45 C operating and 5 to 40 C charging for the Action 4 pack.
  • Newer camera in the bag. The same pack question for the Osmo Action 6 batteries has its own guide.

What we could not verify

No third-party kit here has a capacity or runtime test behind it, only the seller's figure, and we found no owner report for any of the five listings. DJI states that its packs fit the Action 4 but publishes no third-party list. The five Amazon listings were read on 2026-10-19 and were not re-opened when this page was written, so check stock and the title on the listing itself. If you have run a third-party pack in an Action 4, tell us and we will add your report as the source.
