Microphones That Fit the DJI Osmo Pocket 3

Two facts decide almost every microphone question about this camera, and they pull in useful directions. The first is that the Osmo Pocket 3 pairs wireless transmitters directly over Bluetooth, with no receiver clipped to anything, which is why the DJI microphone range is genuinely a better match for this camera than a cheaper wireless kit would be. The second is that DJI supports two transmitters at once and the Creator Combo ships exactly one.

That second fact is the whole commercial shape of this guide. Most Pocket 3 accessory categories are awkward for a Combo owner because the box already contains the thing being recommended. Here the box contains half of it. A second transmitter is not a duplicate, it is the difference between recording yourself and recording a conversation, and it is the one microphone purchase a Combo owner can make without buying something twice.

The third thing worth saying before the list: there is no 3.5 mm jack on this camera. Not on the body, not on the handle, not on the battery handle. If you own a lavalier with a plug on the end of it, you need an adapter or a transmitter to take it, and the route DJI sanctions is below.

The bullet that matters: "The transmitter can directly link to smartphones, Osmo Pocket 3, and DJI Action 4 via Bluetooth for simplified and ultra-efficient creation." DJI's FAQ confirms the camera pairs two transmitters, and the Creator Combo contains one, in Shadow Black, already linked from the factory: "Osmo Pocket 3 is linked to the DJI Mic 2 Transmitter when purchased together as a combo." One caveat from the manual that has nothing to do with fit and catches people out: while the camera is linked to a Mic 2 transmitter on the 2.4 GHz band, the DJI Mimo app cannot connect. The fix DJI gives is to switch the camera to 5.8 GHz or disconnect the transmitter first.

DJI's Pocket 3 FAQ answers it directly: "Osmo Pocket 3 does not support a direct connection to DJI Mic. It needs to be used with the DJI Mic Receiver plugged in." The manual gives the method: use the USB-C mobile phone adapter included in the DJI Mic kit to connect the receiver to the USB-C port on the camera. So it works, wired, with the receiver hanging off the camera or the battery handle, which is a different proposition from the newer transmitters that link over Bluetooth and clip to a shirt with nothing else attached.

What to check before you buy

Start with which box you bought, then how many voices you are recording.

  • Check the box first. The Creator Combo includes one DJI Mic 2 transmitter, a windscreen and a clip magnet, already linked to the camera from the factory. The standard box includes no microphone at all.
  • One voice or two. The camera pairs two transmitters. If you interview people, the second transmitter is the upgrade, and buying a two-transmitter kit from scratch is cheaper than buying two singles.
  • You do not need the receiver. Current DJI transmitters link straight to the camera. A kit including a receiver is only worth the money if the same microphone also has to work on a camera that cannot pair directly.
  • Generation matters more than price. The original DJI Mic cannot connect directly and needs its receiver wired in. The listings do not tell you this.
  • A wired microphone goes into USB-C. Either into the camera port, or into the rear port on the DJI battery handle, which the manual says accepts wired microphones, digital headphones and a wireless receiver. Third-party battery handles do not all keep that port working for audio, and at least one says so in its own listing.

There is no headphone jack, and where the one 3.5 mm socket is

This is the single most common wrong assumption about the Osmo Pocket 3, and it sends people to the wrong products.

The camera body has a USB-C port, a microSD slot and a lanyard hole. The Handle With 1/4-20 Thread relocates that USB-C port to the rear. The battery handle does the same and puts a USB-C port there too. That is the complete list of sockets in the system: no 3.5 mm anywhere.

The only 3.5 mm connector in the whole Osmo Pocket 3 world is on a DJI Mic 2 transmitter, and it is an input rather than an output: it exists so you can feed an external microphone into the transmitter. DJI attaches a hard warning to it in the manual, and it is worth repeating exactly: "DO NOT connect a microphone with a power supply of 24 V or 48 V." That rules out phantom-powered condensers.

So there are two legitimate routes for a wired microphone, and DJI names both in its FAQ: a third-party microphone over USB-C digital, or a 3.5 mm port adapter. The adapter row below is the second of those, and it is the one to buy if you already own a receiver or a lavalier that ends in a plug.

What we could not verify

DJI publishes a compatibility list for its own microphone line and nothing at all for anybody else. Its FAQ says a third-party microphone can connect through USB-C digital signals or a 3.5 mm port adapter, and that is the entire published statement: no named models, no tested brands, no supported sample rates beyond the digital format the manual mentions. So for any microphone that is not a DJI transmitter, the fit is the general route DJI describes rather than a verified pairing, and we have not tested one on this camera because we do not test. Two smaller gaps. We could not verify how the Osmo Pocket 3 behaves with a mixture of microphone generations paired at once, because DJI documents the count and not the combinations. And where DJI's 2024 manual and its current support pages disagree, because a microphone is newer than the manual, we have cited the support page and said so on the row.

Questions owners ask

Does the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 have a microphone jack?

No. There is no 3.5 mm jack on the camera body, on the threaded handle or on the battery handle. Wired microphones go in over USB-C, either directly or through a 3.5 mm to USB-C adapter, which is the route DJI names in its FAQ.

How many wireless microphones can it use at once?

Two. DJI answers yes to pairing two transmitters with the Osmo Pocket 3, which is what makes a second transmitter a genuine upgrade for anyone who already owns the Creator Combo and its single unit.

Does the Creator Combo include a microphone?

Yes, one DJI Mic 2 Transmitter in Shadow Black, plus a windscreen and a clip magnet, and DJI states it arrives already linked to the camera. The standard box includes none of that.

Will the original DJI Mic work with the Osmo Pocket 3?

Not directly. DJI states the Osmo Pocket 3 does not support a direct connection to the first-generation DJI Mic and that it has to be used with the DJI Mic Receiver plugged in, which means a receiver and a cable hanging off the camera.
