Memory Cards That Fit the DJI Osmo Pocket 3

Every Osmo Pocket 3 needs a memory card, and DJI puts one in neither box. The manual is explicit that footage can only be stored on a microSD card and that the card is not included, and that is as true of the Creator Combo as it is of the standard camera. The Combo adds seven items over the standard box and a card is not one of them, which makes this one of the very few Pocket 3 purchases that is not a duplicate of something you already paid for.

The good news is that DJI publishes an actual list of card models it recommends, by brand and product name. That is rare, and it makes this the best sourced decision on the whole camera. The awkward news is that the list has a problem nobody seems to have written down. The camera takes microSD, and two of the five entries name products whose current supply is full-size SD, which is a card that physically cannot enter the slot. This guide reproduces the list, says which entries you can genuinely buy in the right shape, and links only the ones we opened and read back ourselves.

DJI names the Extreme PRO line at a capacity and generation SanDisk no longer sells, so this is the current version of a listed card rather than the listed card itself.

Named by DJI and not linkable, because we could not find it for sale as microSD anywhere on Amazon. Kept in so the gap in the list is visible rather than silently filled.

What to check before you buy

Four things decide this, and only one of them is a number on the front of the card.

  • The shape, first. The slot is microSD. Cards sold as SD, SDXC or SDHC without the micro prefix are the full-size format and will not go in, including two on DJI's own recommended list.
  • The speed grade DJI actually asks for. The manual asks for UHS-I Speed Grade 3, written U3. Video speed classes like V30 are a different scale printed on the same cards, so read for the U rather than assuming a V figure covers it.
  • The ceiling. DJI supports up to 1 TB. Larger cards exist and are outside what DJI publishes.
  • Where you buy it. Owners hitting the camera's slow-card warning are told by other owners, repeatedly, that the usual cause is a counterfeit card rather than a slow one. Buying from the card maker's own storefront is the cheapest insurance available here.

DJI's list, and what you can actually buy

DJI names five products on its specifications page. Here is what each one turns out to be when you go looking for it.

SanDisk Extreme Pro. Buyable as microSD. DJI names a small, older version of it; the current line is a newer generation with a higher app performance class, which is above the specification rather than short of it.

Kingston Canvas Go!Plus. Buyable as microSD, in two hardware generations sold under one product name. DJI names capacities and a speed grade rather than a part number, so the list does not tell you which generation it meant. Both carry the grade DJI asks for.

Lexar SILVER PLUS microSDXC. Buyable as microSD, at the exact capacities DJI names. This is the cleanest row on the list and it is why it leads our picks.

Kingston Canvas React Plus. Every listing we opened under that name was a full-size SD card. It is on the list and we could not find it in a shape that fits the camera.

Lexar Pro SDXC. The Lexar product answering that description is a full-size SD card too. If you want the Lexar on this list, the microSD one is the SILVER PLUS, which is a separate row on the same list.

We are not correcting DJI. The list is DJI's and we have reproduced it as written. What we have added is the one check the list does not do for you.

What we could not verify

Three gaps, and they are all in the same place. We could not find the Kingston Canvas React Plus for sale as a microSD card at all, so we cannot tell you whether it exists in that form and is simply unstocked, or whether the recommendation points at a product that was never made in the shape this camera needs. We also cannot tell you which hardware generation of the Kingston Canvas Go!Plus DJI meant, because DJI names capacities and a speed grade and no part number. And we cannot tell you whether the Lexar row was meant to point at the full-size SILVER PRO or at the microSD SILVER PLUS that appears separately on the same list. If DJI clarifies any of the three, or if you have bought the React Plus as microSD, tell us and we will update the row with your report as the source.

Questions owners ask

Does the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 come with a memory card?

No, and neither version does. The manual states that footage can only be stored on a microSD card and that the card is not included. The Creator Combo adds seven items over the standard box and a card is not among them.

What speed card does the Osmo Pocket 3 need?

DJI asks for UHS-I Speed Grade 3, written U3 on the card, and says it is required because of the reading and writing speeds the camera works at. Anything slower is below what DJI publishes.

What is the largest card the Osmo Pocket 3 supports?

DJI publishes a maximum card capacity of 1 TB. Larger microSD cards exist, and using one is outside anything DJI has stated.

Why does my card show a slow card warning?

It is worth checking the card is genuine before assuming it is slow. An owner posting that warning with a card that met the grade was told by several others in the thread that counterfeit cards are common on marketplaces and that testing the card is the first step. Another owner in the same thread notes the warning appears only once they push bitrate or frame rate up.

Can I use a full-size SD card with an adapter?

No. Adapters run the other way, letting a microSD card sit in a full-size slot. The Osmo Pocket 3 has a microSD slot, so a full-size card has nowhere to go.
