Legion Go 2 Cases: Which Ones Fit Gen 2

The question underneath every Legion Go 2 case listing is which machine it was actually cut for, and the answer is almost never in the title. Lenovo has now shipped three handhelds in this family, two of them 8.8 inch, and the aisle sells cases for all of them side by side.

Here is what Lenovo publishes, which turns out to be enough to settle it. The 2023 Legion Go measures 298.83 x 131 x 40.7 mm with its controllers on. The Legion Go 2 measures 295.6 x 136.7 x 42.25 mm. So the newer machine is slightly narrower, and it is meaningfully deeper and thicker. A case cut snugly around the older one has slack in the dimension that does not matter and a shortfall in the two that do.

Then there is the number almost nobody quotes. The 42.25 mm figure is the body. Lenovo adds, in a footnote to its own spec sheet, that the height is 50.85 mm with the joysticks. The sticks are the tallest part of this machine and they do not retract, so 50.85 mm is what a hard case has to close over. A listing quoting an internal depth in the low forties is quoting the wrong dimension.

This is an argument from published dimensions. We compile manufacturer specifications and owner reports; we have not put a 2023 case on a Legion Go 2 and this page does not pretend otherwise.

Seller-stated fit against Gen 2 specifically, which is the strongest form a third-party claim takes in this category. Note the rating count is shared with this seller's 2023 Legion Go listing, so the social proof is the product family's rather than this generation's.

JSAUX Carrying Case for Legion Go, Go S and Go 2

The large three-generation bag, which is the right answer if you are carrying controllers and a charger as well as the machine and would rather have room than a moulded fit.

A shell rather than a bag, cut around the cooling vents and naming the Gen 2 in its own title, for owners who want protection while they play rather than while they travel.

JSAUX Slim Travel Case for Legion Go, Go S and Go 2

The slim sibling of the large bag, for carrying the machine and almost nothing else. Same three-generation fit claim and the same caveat, with less room around the outside: a form-fit pouch has less margin to absorb the difference between the generations than a large bag does.

What to check before you buy

Buy on the generation in the title, not on the screen size.

  • "8.8 inch" tells you nothing. Both the 2023 Legion Go and the Legion Go 2 are 8.8 inch handhelds. Size is the one spec these machines share.
  • Look for "Gen 2", "Go 2" or "2025" in the title. Sellers who make both generations put the year or the generation in the name, and they list them as separate products.
  • A three-generation bag is luggage. Cases sold as fitting Legion Go, Go S and Go 2 together are sized for the largest of them. That is fine for a bag and it is not a moulded shell.
  • Check the internal depth against 50.85 mm, not 42.25 mm. The joysticks set the height.
  • Machine types 8ASP2 and 8AHP2 are the same chassis. Lenovo lists them separately because the processor differs. Do not hunt for a case that names your machine type; no seller uses those codes.
  • Watch the rating count. Several of these listings share a review pool with the same seller's 2023 product, so the feedback you are reading may be about a case for a different machine.

Will a 2023 Legion Go case fit the Legion Go 2?

Nobody has published a direct answer, so here is the whole evidence base.

What Lenovo states. Both generations have a full PSREF entry with dimensions. The 2023 machine with controllers: 298.83 x 131 x 40.7 mm, under 854 g. The Legion Go 2: 295.6 x 136.7 x 42.25 mm, around 920 g, and 50.85 mm tall with the joysticks. Both figures are official and neither document mentions the other machine.

What that supports. The Legion Go 2 needs about 5.7 mm more depth and 1.55 mm more height than the machine a 2023 case was built around, while being about 3.23 mm narrower. A loose bag will very likely cope. A form-fitting shell has no reason to.

What it does not support. We cannot tell you a specific 2023 case will not close, because a case has tolerances the seller does not publish and we have not tested one. Lenovo also publishes no stick height for the 2023 machine, so the one dimension that matters most cannot be compared across the two generations at all.

What the sellers do. The vendors who make cases for both machines ship them as separate products with the model year in the title. That is not proof of anything, and it is the strongest available signal about what they think fits.

Questions owners ask

Does a Legion Go 2 case fit the 2023 Legion Go as well?

Not reliably, and for the same reason it does not work the other way round. The two machines differ in every dimension: 295.6 x 136.7 x 42.25 mm against 298.83 x 131 x 40.7 mm. Cases sold for both generations at once exist and say so in the title.

What internal depth does a hard case need?

Enough to clear 50.85 mm, which is what Lenovo gives as the height with the joysticks in a footnote to its spec sheet. The headline 42.25 mm is the body without them, and the sticks do not retract.

My machine says 8AHP2 rather than 8ASP2. Different case?

No. Lenovo publishes two PSREF entries for the Legion Go 2 because one ships a Ryzen Z2 Extreme and the other a Ryzen Z2. Their design sections are identical, so anything that fits one fits the other.

Why do two different cases show the same number of ratings?

Because several sellers list their 2023 and Gen 2 products in one review family, so both listings report the same total. It is worth knowing that the feedback under a Gen 2 case may have been left by owners of a different machine.
