DJI Mini 5 Pro Propeller Guards and the 250 g Line

The guard decision is mostly about when you fly, not which brand you pick.

• Register first. Whichever guard you choose, a guarded Mini 5 Pro is over 250 g and must be registered before you fly it. That is the cost of the whole category and it applies to every product here.
• Full ring or partial bumper. A 360-degree cage protects the props on every side and is the shape for flying around people indoors. A lighter partial guard costs less flight time but still leaves a blade exposed at the edges.
• Quick release. Every guard here comes off without tools, so you can fit it for an indoor session and strip it for open-air flying where you would rather have the range back.
• Expect less flight time. A guard adds weight and drag, so hover time and range fall while it is on. That is unavoidable and not a fault of any particular guard.

The strongest source in this whole cluster is DJI itself. On the listing for its own 360-degree propeller guard, DJI writes that the aircraft will weigh more than 250 g after the guard is installed and tells owners to check and obey local rules. Read against the FAA line, which exempts drones under 250 g flown recreationally, that sentence means a guarded Mini 5 Pro is a drone that must be registered. DJIs own guard is sold in the US only through gray sellers, so we do not link it, but the finding it carries is the reason every third-party guard on this page gets the same verdict: they all cross the line, because that is what a guard does to this airframe.

We have not fitted any of these guards. DJI publishes no US-reachable Mini 5 Pro page, so the physical fit of a third-party guard is the sellers claim, read off the listing on the date shown and attributed to them. The weight consequence is the part we can source, and it comes from DJIs own copy and the FAA.
