Straws are the one Owala part where the ounces genuinely matter, and it is worth saying why, because the neighbouring part works the opposite way round.

Owala's replacement-lid page asks you for a Style and a Colour and nothing else, because one FreeSip lid covers every FreeSip size. Its replacement-straw page asks for a Style and a Size, in 12, 14, 16, 19, 24, 25, 32 and 40 oz. So the person who cracked a lid does not need to know their capacity, and the person who lost a straw does.

What Owala does not publish is how long any of them are. Third-party sellers do, and they agree with each other, which is the only reason a number appears on this page at all: four unrelated sellers give the 24 and 32 oz FreeSip straw as 8.27 in long and 0.39 in across, and two more give the 40 oz straw as 9.25 in.

The other thing those listings agree on is a cross-line fit that the lids do not have: the same straw serves the FreeSip and the Flip at the same ounce. If your household runs both, one six-pack covers both bottles.

Getting the length right

Only one number decides this, and it is not the one on the bottle.

24 oz and 32 oz take an 8.27 in straw. Same part, both sizes, FreeSip or Flip.
40 oz takes a 9.25 in straw, and that covers the 40 oz FreeSip, the 40 oz FreeSip Tumbler and the 40 oz FreeSip Sway on one seller's own bullet.
The width is 0.39 in on all of them, so a straw that is the wrong length is still the right diameter, and it will seat and simply not reach.
The handled travel tumbler is its own thing. One seller lists a 12 in straw for a handled 40 oz Owala, so do not assume a 40 oz bottle and a 40 oz tumbler share a part.
Silicone trim-to-fit is the workaround for odd sizes. The 16 and 19 oz have almost no dedicated aftermarket, and a straw you cut to length sidesteps that.
Think twice about metal. It is the upgrade everybody wants and the one owners keep reporting problems with.

What Owala sells, and what it leaves out

Read straight off the Style and Size selectors on Owala's replacement-straw page on 2026-07-29:

Two things stand out. The first is that Owala sells a FreeSip Twist straw while selling no FreeSip Twist lid at all, so the Twist owner who breaks a straw is covered and the one who breaks a lid is not.

The second is that the size list runs wider than the bottle line-up: there is no 12, 14 or 25 oz bottle in the current range, and those are the Kids sizes and the Tritan the aftermarket still lists.

The metal-straw caution, stated as what it is. r/Owala carries repeated accounts of aftermarket metal straws cracking the lid where the straw inserts. One thread puts it directly: "Many accounts here of metal straws cracking the lid where it inserts." That is an owner report, not a test, and Owala publishes nothing on it. It is on this page because the downside is a broken lid, which costs more than the straw.

If the straw is not the problem

A straw that seats but leaks is usually a stopper, and a lid that leaks around the spout is definitely one. Both live on the replacement lids and seals guide, along with the reason a FreeSip lid has no size at all.

And if your straw keeps working loose rather than breaking, check the gasket before you buy another straw: it is the part that grips it, and Owala sells that separately too.

Does the same straw fit a FreeSip and a Flip?
