Owala Boot 32 oz: What It Fits, and What It Does Not

Owala sells a boot for its own bottles and titles it "Protects FreeSip, Twist, and Flip Stainless Steel Water Bottles". Three bullets down the same listing, the first feature bullet reads "Not intended for use with tritan plastic, Kids bottles, Freesip Twist, FreeSip Sway, Freesip Tumblers, SmoothSip coffee tumblers". Both of those strings were read off the same page on the same day.

Owala's own website settles it. The bottle boot page says, in plain text, "Not intended for FreeSip Twist". So the exclusion is the real position and the title is the odd one out.

The reason the title exists is the interesting part, and owners worked it out before anyone else: Owala used to sell a bottle called simply the Twist, and it is not the FreeSip Twist. The title was written for the older bottle and never updated. As one r/Owala commenter put it to somebody whose new boot had arrived loose, "The twist they're talking about on Amazon is the old style of an Owala they used to make."

That single ambiguity is now all over the aisle. Three of the third-party boots below copy the phrase into their own bullets word for word. This page tells you which boot is for which bottle, from what Owala publishes, with the owner reports attached where Owala publishes nothing.

The title and the bullet disagree, and Owala's own site sides with the bullet: "Not intended for FreeSip Twist, Tritan, 19oz FreeSip, 25oz FreeSip bottles or our 40oz Tumbler". Fits the stainless FreeSip 32 oz, whose published width is 3.43 in against this boot's published 3.4 in.

Pick 202

Owala Silicone Water Bottle Boot, 24 Oz

The same part one size down, and the one at the centre of the Twist confusion, because a 24 oz FreeSip and a 24 oz FreeSip Twist are different bottles that the title does not separate.

Owner-reported failure against the FreeSip Twist is documented and repeated: one thread is titled "Owala 24oz boot does NOT fit 24oz FreeSip Twist", and a commenter on a second thread explains why the title is not simply wrong: "The twist they're talking about on Amazon is the old style of an Owala they used to make."

Pick 303

Owala Silicone Boot Accessory, 40 Oz

For the 40 oz FreeSip, and worth noticing because Owala titled this one honestly: it says "Protects FreeSip" with no Twist in the name at all, on the same product family as the others.

For the Sway04

Kaitiaki Silicone Boot for FreeSip Sway 30 oz and 40 oz

Pick 505

How to buy the right boot

Buy on the line and the size, and read the bullet rather than the title.

  • Find your line first. FreeSip, FreeSip Sway, FreeSip Twist, FreeSip Tumbler, Flip and SmoothSip Slider are six different bottles and four of them start with the word FreeSip.
  • The title is marketing, the bullet is the spec. On every Owala boot listing opened for this page, the title and the first feature bullet disagreed about the Twist. The bullet is the one that matches Owala's own site.
  • Match the published diameter if you are off-piste. Owala gives its 24 oz boot as 3.1 in across and its 32 oz as 3.4 in, and gives the bottles themselves as 3.12 in and 3.43 in. Those line up, which is what a correct set of numbers looks like.
  • The Sway is a different shape and Owala publishes no diameter for it. Any Sway fit on this page is the seller's claim or an owner's report, and it is labelled as such.
  • A boot makes a bottle wider, not narrower. If you are buying to solve a cup-holder problem, a boot is the wrong purchase and the cup-holder adapters are the right one.
  • Two sellers here list one product several times over. Colourway-per-listing is normal in this category, so a search result showing six boots may be showing you one.
  • The reviews are shared. All three Owala boots on this page reported the identical rating count when opened, because Amazon pools feedback across the size variants. The stars are about the family, not about your size.

Does the Owala boot fit the FreeSip Twist?

No, and this is the most expensive question in the category, so here is the whole evidence base.

What Owala publishes. The bottle boot page carries three compatibility bullets. Two are inclusions: it fits 16, 24, 32 or 40 oz stainless steel FreeSip bottles, and it fits the 30 oz and 40 oz FreeSip Sway plus the 40 oz FreeSip Tumbler. The third is the exclusion, and it names the FreeSip Twist first.

What the Amazon listing says. Several of Owala's own boots are titled "Protects FreeSip, Twist, and Flip". Not all of them are: the 40 oz listing is titled "Protects FreeSip" and stops there, and one is simply "Owala Bottle Boot, 32 Oz, Black". Three title conventions, one product family.

What owners report. A thread titled "Owala 24oz boot does NOT fit 24oz FreeSip Twist" is the clearest of several. The top reply to it: "What the heck... 'Fits 24 oz bottles' is a lie." A second thread has a buyer holding a boot that arrived loose: "The listing said it would fit the twist bottles but clearly it is very loose."

What actually fits a FreeSip Twist. Nothing on this page is sold for it. What owners do instead is buy on diameter, because Owala does publish that number for this line: the 18 oz Twist is 2.8 in at the base and the 24 oz is 2.9 in. One owner reports buying a third-party boot at roughly that size and finding it "not as snug as the ones from owala but they're not budging". Others report Stanley and Hydro Flask boots fitting. Those are owner reports, they are not specifications, and we have not tested any of them.

And the Sway, which is a newer problem

The FreeSip Sway is the other place people get stuck, for a reason that is easy to check and slightly startling: Owala publishes no dimensions for the Sway at all.

Its product page carries three dimension diagrams. All three are FreeSip diagrams, and two of them are for sizes the Sway is not sold in. The Sway comes in 18, 30, 40 and 64 oz; the diagrams are labelled 24 and 32. So a Sway owner trying to look up a diameter finds a picture of a different bottle.

What does exist: Owala now sells a boot in a "FreeSip Tumbler / FreeSip Sway" style covering 30 oz and 40 oz, and the aftermarket covers the same pair several times over. An older owner PSA saying no Owala boot fits the Sway is out of date, and we say so rather than repeating it.

What does not exist: a boot for the 18 oz Sway. Owala lists no such size, an owner thread asks the question and gets no first-party answer, and exactly one seller below claims it.

If your bottle is not on this page

The Flip and the SmoothSip Slider have no boot from Owala and none we found from anyone else. The 19 oz and 25 oz FreeSip and every Tritan plastic bottle are excluded by name on Owala's own bullet, which is a rare thing to see written down and worth trusting.

If what you actually want is your bottle to stop being scratched and start fitting somewhere, the two other guides here are the replacement lids and seals, for when the part that failed is the one you drink through, and the cup-holder adapters, for the problem a boot makes worse.

Questions owners ask

Does the Owala 24 oz boot fit the 24 oz FreeSip Twist?

No. Owala's own site says "Not intended for FreeSip Twist", and the feature bullet on its Amazon listings says the same. The word Twist in those listing titles refers to a retired Owala bottle that was called simply the Twist, not to the current FreeSip Twist. Owners report the boot arriving visibly loose.

So what boot fits a FreeSip Twist?

Nothing sold for it, which is why this page does not pretend otherwise. Owala publishes the base diameter for this line, which the Sway page does not get: 2.8 in on the 18 oz and 2.9 in on the 24 oz. Owners buy generic boots at about that size, and several report Stanley or Hydro Flask boots fitting. Those are owner reports and not manufacturer statements.

Will a boot stop my bottle fitting in a cup holder?

It can only make it worse. Owala publishes its 32 oz boot at 3.4 in across and its 40 oz at 3.6 in, so a booted bottle is at least as wide as a bare one. If cup-holder fit is the problem, the cup-holder adapters are the guide you want.

Why do so many boots list Owala, Stanley and Hydro Flask?

Because bottle bases of a given diameter are interchangeable, and sellers title for every brand in that size band. It cuts both ways: owners in r/Owala recommend Stanley and Hydro Flask boots for Owala bottles Owala does not cover. A title naming four brands is not evidence of a fit; the diameter is.

Do you test these accessories yourselves?

No. We compile what manufacturers publish and what owners report, and we link both so you can check them. Every listing on this page was opened by hand on 2026-07-29 and its title, availability and feature bullets read back. Nothing here has been fitted to a bottle by us.
