YETI Rambler Lid Replacement: Which One Fits

A YETI Rambler "lid" is three or four different parts that share one word, and the ounce on the side of your cup will not tell you which you need. Owners know it: one r/YetiCoolers thread is titled "Just got screwed by the obtuse Rambler lid system", and the buyer had checked the size on the base, bought the lid it named, and found the old one was threaded and the new one was not.

Here is the whole system in three rules, each of which YETI publishes on a product page and never in one place.

Bottles take one thread. Every Rambler Bottle, from the 18 oz to the 64 oz, shares a thread, so a Chug Cap, a Straw Cap or a Commuter Cap swaps freely between them. On the bottle side you choose a style, never a size.

Tumblers and cups take a sized MagSlider. Small, Medium or Large, matched to the mouth, and it does not go on a bottle or on a Travel Mug. The 20 oz Tumbler is a Medium; the 30 oz Tumbler is a Large.

Travel Mugs take a Stronghold lid, which is a fourth part again and the one with a recall attached. This page sorts the in-stock lids into those buckets so you buy the right one once.

How to buy the right lid the first time

Answer one question before you look at a single listing: is your vessel a bottle, a tumbler or cup, or a Travel Mug?

  • Bottle? Buy on style, not size. All Rambler bottles share a thread, so any bottle cap fits any bottle. Pick chug, straw or carry, and ignore the ounce.
  • Tumbler or cup? Buy the MagSlider size. Medium fits the 20 oz Tumbler and the small cups and mugs; Large fits the 30 oz Tumbler and the straw mugs; Small fits the 6 oz Espresso, the 8 oz Stackable and the 10 oz Wine Tumbler.
  • Mind the 20 oz trap. A "20 oz Tumbler" lid, a "20 oz Rambler" bottle cap and a "20 oz Travel Mug" Stronghold lid are three different parts. One of the listings below spells this out in its own title.
  • A four-brand title is a diameter, not a fit. A 30 oz tumbler mouth is a 3.6 in circle whether YETI, RTIC, Ozark Trail or Ember made it, so a lid lists them all. Match the diameter and the brand list stops mattering.
  • The reviews are shared. The high rating counts here are pooled across the colour and size variants of a family, not earned by the single size you are buying. Read them as a family verdict.
  • A MagSlider is spill-resistant, not leakproof. YETI says so itself, and owners confirm it. If you need leakproof, that is the Stronghold or a screw cap, not the MagSlider.

The MagSlider is sized, and the size is not the ounce on your cup

The single most common mistake on the tumbler side is buying a MagSlider by the number on the vessel instead of the size YETI assigns it. The three sizes, read straight off YETI's own fit lists:

  • Small fits the 6 oz Espresso Mug, the 8 oz Stackable Cup, and the 10 oz Wine Tumbler and 10 oz Tumbler.
  • Medium fits the 10 oz Stackable Lowball, 10 oz Stackable Mug, 16 oz Stackable Cup, 20 oz Stackable Cup, 20 oz Tumbler, 24 oz Mug and 25 oz Straw Mug.
  • Large fits the 14 oz Stackable Mug, 30 oz Stackable Cup, 30 oz Tumbler, 35 oz Straw Mug and 42 oz Straw Mug.

YETI states, in the same breath, that this lid "is not compatible with Rambler Bottles or Jugs or Travel Mugs with the Stronghold Lid." So the MagSlider is the tumbler-and-cup answer and nothing else. If your vessel is a bottle, skip this whole section and buy a cap.

The Stronghold Travel Mug, and the recall that is actually real

The part people most often mistake for a MagSlider is the Stronghold lid, which YETI designed for the 20 oz and 30 oz Travel Mugs. It twists on and locks, it is a different part, and r/YetiCoolers has a standing question about whether the pieces interchange: "Do Regular Magslider Pieces Work On Stronghold Lids?" They do not.

This is also the one lid in the line with a recall, and it is worth stating correctly because the internet gets it wrong. In November 2020 YETI recalled the Rambler 20 oz Travel Mug with the Stronghold Lid (CPSC 21-020) because, in the notice's words, "the magnet slider on the lid can eject and hot contents can spill out." It is the 2020 Travel Mug Stronghold lid, not a MagSlider, and not a 2023 event: the 2023 YETI recall was for soft coolers and gear cases, with no drinkware in it. If you own a 20 oz Travel Mug from that period, the recall record is the link to check.

If none of these is your lid

If what you lost was the little magnet out of a MagSlider rather than the whole lid, you are not alone. One owner opened a gift and found "there is no magnetic slider for my Yeti", and the slider is sold on its own. If your lid is fine and you just want to drink through a straw, that is the straw lids and straw caps guide, where the bottle-versus-tumbler split works exactly the same way.

And if you came here wanting the one table that shows every lid against every vessel, that is the Rambler accessories hub, which is the chart YETI has never published and owners keep asking for.

Questions owners ask

What lid fits my 20 oz YETI?

It depends which 20 oz you own, and this is the most expensive question in the line. A 20 oz Tumbler takes a Medium MagSlider or a Medium tumbler Straw Lid. A 20 oz Travel Mug takes a Stronghold lid, a different part. And a "20 oz Rambler" bottle takes a bottle cap on the shared thread. Three parts, one number, so check the vessel, not the ounce.

Are all YETI Rambler bottle caps interchangeable?

Yes. YETI states that all Rambler Bottles share the same thread size, so you can swap a Chug Cap for a Bottle Straw Cap or a Commuter Cap across every bottle from the 18 oz to the 64 oz. On the bottle side you buy a style, not a size.

Is the MagSlider lid leakproof?

No. YETI says plainly that "the MagSlider Lid is not leakproof and will not prevent spills," and owners agree; one r/YetiCoolers thread reports three MagSliders leaking and two YETI-sent replacements doing the same. It is spill-resistant. If you need leakproof, that is a screw cap or a Stronghold, not a MagSlider.

Was there a YETI lid recall?

Yes, but a specific one, often misremembered. In November 2020 YETI recalled the Rambler 20 oz Travel Mug with the Stronghold Lid (CPSC 21-020) because the magnet slider can eject and hot contents can spill. It is the Travel Mug Stronghold lid, not the tumbler MagSlider. The separate 2023 YETI recall was for soft coolers and gear cases, not drinkware.

Do you test these lids yourselves?

No. We compile what YETI publishes and what owners report, and we link both. Every listing on this page was opened by hand on 2026-08-03 and its title, availability, rating count and feature bullets read back. Nothing here has been fitted to a cup by us.
