Buying a blade without buying the wrong one

Two questions: which container, and do you have the tools?

Classic-tall or low-profile? The tall container (about 13 in) is the 3 in blade and the C-Series. The short one (about 10 in, fits under a cabinet) is the 4 in blade and the G-Series or 5300. Do not go by the ounce; both are 64 oz.
Get the wrench and drive socket. A blade swap means torquing a retainer nut and pulling a drive socket. Buy a kit that ships both unless you already own them.
Check the o-ring before you blame the blade. A Vitamix that leaks often needs an o-ring or a tighter nut, not a new blade. If a new blade still leaks, look at the container for a crack.
Be careful buying "genuine". Owners have received counterfeit blades sold as genuine on marketplaces; a reputable third-party replacement is often the more honest buy than a fake OEM.

Vitamix states the classic-tall container has "cutting blades measuring 3 in diameter" and the low-profile has blades "measuring 4 in diameter". That is the whole fitment problem in one line: two containers of the same stated volume, two different blades, and no crossing between them.

The safety layer, stated as what it is. This category carries a real risk the maker's absence makes worse. One thread ("Are these eBay bought Vitamix blades genuine or fake?") ends with Vitamix confirming the blades were counterfeit. Another ("New replacement vitamix blades still are leaking") lands on the o-ring and the container rather than the blade. Both are owner reports, not tests, and both are here because the downside of getting a blade wrong is a leak into the motor or metal where your food is.
